The Homecoming Royalty Committee hopes to create hype and participation at the Royalty Fashion Show this year.
The show will take place at 7 tonight in Pruis Hall. The doors will open at 6:30, and a $1 admission fee will be taken at the door.
"My goal is to make it more fun. ... I really want to get the audience engaged," Heather Closson, royalty chairman, said.
The committee, in addition to changing the way the candidates will be walking on the stage, is adding a new feature for this year's event in the hopes of creating more crowd participation.
"We're adding in a new award for the participants," Closson said. "In the past, we've always had best costume. This year we're having crowd favorite."
The panel of judges will determine the three best costumes based on crowd reaction. At the end of the show, the best will come back out for an audience cheer-off.
Though there is no set theme for the show, the overall homecoming theme, "Play Your Cards Right," will be seen in most of the costumes throughout the night.
Participants will dress like Vegas showgirls, characters from "The Hangover" and various celebrities, such as Hugh Heffner, Michael Jackson and Elvis, Closson said.
"It's going to be a blast going into the royal's fashion show and seeing everyone's costume," said Kaitlyn Brewer, a royalty candidate representing Brayton and Clevenger Halls.
Two fast passes for the Homecoming Village zip line will be award to two lucky attendees. These are being given away as an incentive to attend the show.
The show will feature all of the royalty candidates, who were nominated by their organizations last spring. Voting took place between Sept. 17 and 21.
The top 10 king and queen candidates will be announced following the show.
"[The Royalty Fashion Show] is just a way for everyone who has been nominated ... to participate in a homecoming event ... and showcase their organizations," Closson said.
