FOOTBALL: Zebra makes his Ball State vs. Northern Illinois, MAC picks

Northern Illinois at Ball State, Saturday

Coming off a loss to Kent State, Ball State has to win this game. Northern Illinois has had a surprisingly strong start to the season, but with the game being at Scheumann Stadium, the Cardinals should win. The offense will need to keep putting up points to do so, though.

Score: 39-34 Ball State

Buffalo at Ohio, Saturday

Ohio has been a heavy favorite around here, and it's starting to buckle under the pressure. Last week, Ohio nearly fell to Massachusetts, one of the worst teams in the country, let alone the Mid-American Conference. Either Ohio isn't as good or it was looking ahead in its schedule.

Score: 30-20 Ohio

Kent State at Eastern Michigan, Saturday

Eastern Michigan was expecting bigger things in 2012 after going 6-6 last year. It hasn't really worked out that way, but it can rebound starting with Kent State. The upset over Ball State last week may have Kent State's confidence sky high.

Score: 27-23 Kent State

Bowling Green at Akron, Saturday

Akron's defense has been abysmal to begin the season. Bowling Green's defense has played pretty well this season and will keep Akron's offense in check.

Score: 21-13 Bowling Green

Massachusetts at Western Michigan, Saturday

UMass put on an impressive performance against Ohio last week, so it will be interesting to see if it can continue that success against Western Michigan. The Broncos lost its starting quarterback Alex Carder for a few weeks to injury, so this could be a great chance for UMass to pick up a win.

Score: 24-13 Western Michigan

Central Michigan at Toledo, Saturday

Toledo took care of Western Michigan with ease and looks to be locking up a spot as one of the top two teams in the MAC. Central Michigan is better than anybody thought at the end of the year, but it won't keep up with the Rockets on Saturday.

Score: 31-14 Toledo

Miami, Ohio at Cincinnati, Saturday

Cincinnati has already beaten Virginia Tech, who was ranked in the top 20 earlier this season. Miami has played pretty well, but it will be hard to see a very competitive game here. Cincinnati is just too good and in a BCS conference.

Score: 33-24 Cincinnati
