A Brownsburg High School student could face charges after causing a scare that put the building under lockdown and sent parents racing to the school.
Parents rushed to the school only to find it on lockdown after an injured 11th grade boy told school officials someone attacked him in one of the restrooms.
Brownsburg police got the call about the stabbing at 9:04 am. They immediately put the school on what they call hard lockdown.
School security cameras recorded the 11th grader entering the restroom alone at 8:41am. The video shows him coming out of the restroom at 8:58 am and falling to the floor.
Police say the student told them someone attacked him, cutting him on his face and lower back. But after a short investigation, school officials determined his wounds were all self-inflicted.
A lot of students at Brownsburg used their cell phones to text their parents about the incident. The reported attack sparked fear in parents who rushed to the school to check on their children.
"From what we have heard was only one person. Either if it was self-inflicted or somebody else involved, you don't want to turn around and let your kids free nor the other kids free either," said Fred Arkanoff, parent.
"We have been interviewing a number of students. We also have staff on site and we also have our video of that and its very, very, very conclusive that this did not happen in any way that this student is reporting," said Dr. Jim Snapp, Brownsburg Schools superintendent.
Police told Eyewitness News that they interviewed the student while he was at Methodist Hospital, and that he still maintains the story of being attacked. Police say they're unclear on how the student came to be injured, but they believe the injuries were self-inflicted.
The school was under lockdown for about two hours Monday morning. The lockdown has since been lifted.
Paramedics took the 11th grader to Methodist Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The superintendent says they will pursue false reporting charges against the student.
