Friends and family of former Ball State student Jenny Haskell honored her life with fun and celebration at the Jam for Jenny memorial concert on Saturday.
The event was the second benefit concert held to support the Jenny Haskell Memorial Scholarship, a fund Haskell's parents set up after she passed away because of injuries from the 2011 Indiana State Fair stage collapse.
Students, friends, parents and teachers filled the small cafeteria of Monroe Central High School, Haskell's alma mater, to hear musicians, play games and enjoy food donated by local businesses.
Country music had audience members swaying in their seats and dancing along the sides of the room.
The long list of performers who donated their time and talents included John Beatrice, Cook & Belle and the Boothill Band, as well as winners of a talent contest.
Some performers attended school with Haskell and were quick to share fond memories and stories with the audience.
Throughout the event, posters proclaiming "We love you, Jenny" and collages filled with grinning faces were emotional reminders of the woman the event honored.
The day was focused on love and celebration as community members took the time to remember Haskell's life and to support the scholarship in her name.
Proceeds from a raffle, silent auction and donations received at the door will go toward the scholarship fund to support future students of Monroe Central High School who share Haskell's academic and athletic commitment.
