Festive music, traditional food and activities will give students of all backgrounds a chance to help promote diversity on campus.
The Latino Student Union Fiesta will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on the patio behind the L.A. Pittenger Student Center.
The LSU executive board created the Fiesta and said the board is hoping it will be a celebration that combines various aspects of the Latino culture.
"The role of LSU is to promote the identity and unity of the Latino students at Ball State University through intellectual, cultural and social growth," Barry Hawkins, adviser of LSU, said.
Organizers said they are hoping the Fiesta will bring students together to experience Latino culture through dancing, music and food.
"The event is held annually, and this year, it was created in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month," Marleny Iraheta, LSU special events coordinator, said.
Hispanic Heritage Month began Saturday and will end Oct. 15.
At the Fiesta, LSU will be hosting a band called Capitulo Uno.
"In correspondence to the music, there will be a dance floor for those who want to get into the spirit of Latin music," Iraheta said.
Free food and activities also will be provided for participants.
The organization has created a Fiesta Facebook event for students to come and invite their friends.
Iraheta said they are expecting a crowd of about 80 people at the event.
Hawkins said it is important to have multicultural events available for students on campus.
"It helps promote diversity, build community and foster a better understanding of other cultures," Hawkins said.
Briana Harrington, a junior human development and family studies major, said by immersing themselves in new cultures, students can expand their knowledge about other nationalities.
"It allows for individuals to be more culturally aware and diversity also enhances social development," Harrington said.
By having students attend the event, Hawkins said he hopes they will gain a better knowledge of LSU and what it offers to the community.
"This organization can help enhance the overall collegiate experience of any student at Ball State [by helping them learn] about different cultures," Hawkins said.
