FOOTBALL: Ball State, South Florida trade field goals in first quarter

Bulls open game with 15 straight running plays

Score: Ball State 3, South Florida 3

South Florida started the game off with 15 straight runs and ran it effectively in the opening drive. Running backs Demetris Murray and Lindsey Lamar and quarterback B.J. Daniels combined for South Florida's 15 rushing plays.

But the Bulls could only show three points for the drive after getting to Ball State's 17-yard line. Two holding penalties killed the drive, especially a running play by Daniels that got to the one-yard line.

Ball State began to build a nice drive of its own after the South Florida field goal, getting to the USF 22-yard line before a pass interference called stopped the momentum.

The drive ended when kicker Steven Schott hit a 39-yard field goal to tie the game at 3-3 with 3:09 left in the first quarter.
