The Ball State field hockey team had a rough Saturday.

In its last chance to make a road statement before a five-game home stretch, Ball State was crushed by Northwestern, 8-0.

The Wildcats outshot the Cardinals 31-3 throughout the game. Northwestern's Tara Puffenberger, last week's Big Ten player of the week, scored four goals to help her team win. Puffenberger attempted 11 shots, and also had an assist Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals had 13 saves against the Wildcats.
Ball State plays its home opener Sunday at noon against Lindenwood.
