Ball State field hockey coach Beth Maddox said prior to the games, as long as her team competes against Davidson and Louisville, she'd be happy.
Maddox was happy with her team's performance over the weekend, but not the result as the Cardinals went 0-2 for the two-game road trip. The team lost to Davidson 1-4 and Louisville 0-5.
The Cardinals' lone goal of the weekend was scored by freshman Allie White. White scored her first collegiate goal 34 minutes into the contest against Davidson.
"Allie did her job on the corner," Maddox said. "She is a fighter and Tarel [Teach] gave her a good ball."
Davidson outshot Ball State 19-9 throughout the game, but all nine of the Cardinals shots came in the first half. Ball State couldn't get a shot off in the second half. Davidson also out-produced Ball State in corner kicks, 10-7.
Davidson's two-time NorPac East player of the year, Finley Amato, tore apart Ball State's defenses on Sunday, scoring three goals on 10 shot attempts. The Cardinals had nine saves against the Wildcats.
Against Louisville, Ball State was outshot 22-3, the largest margin of the season. Eleven different players for Louisville attempted shots against Ball State.
Just like the pattern to the previous games, Maddi Elliott and Shelby Henley split time at goalkeeper over the weekend. Maddox said that both "did a tremendous job."
After a difficult weekend, Ball State will travel to Oxford, Ohio, to face Longwood University on Sunday.
"This was a good weekend for us to learn from," Maddox said. "Losing is never fun, but if we can learn from it, then we will be OK. We will learn from this weekend and move on. Time to focus on Longwood."
