CROSS COUNTRY: Cardinals finish fourth out of 26-team field

Nearly all Ball State runners finish with personal best times

Ball State's cross country team sprinted near the front of the pack on Saturday, finishing in fourth place out of 26 teams in the Terre Haute meet.

It was the cross country teams' strongest finish at the Indiana Intercollegiate race since 2008, when they finished third. The Indiana Intercollegiate was hosted by Indiana State and comprised of teams from across the state.

Ball State senior MaryKate Mellen led the team by finishing seventh overall, and she broke her previous personal best by clocking 18:16. The Cardinals finished with 161 points, finishing behind Indiana State, Purdue and Indiana.

Nearly all of Ball State's runners set new personal records, including freshmen Kelly Swift and Danielle Dahl and sophomore Caitlynn Edon.

Underclassmen also led the charge for Ball State, as sophomore Courtney Edon and freshman Katelyn DeVries finished with times of 18:59 and 19:11, with Edon's time a new personal best.

The Cardinals will race again at the Greater Louisville Classic in Kentucky on Sept. 29 before hosting their only home meet of the season on Oct. 5.
