Muncie Coupons, a subscription based program operating through the Twitter account @MuncieDeals, has become an instant sensation across campus, offering students free Pita Pit sandwiches, dollar tans and buy-one, get-one free laundering services all within the span of one week.
@MuncieDeals, a program offered by Shah Steals LLC and co-owned by Hasan Shah and his brother Sajjad, allows, in Hasan's words, college students to "live the college life the way it should be."
The program offers discounts, free tickets to concerts and free food or services by tweeting deals out to its more than 5,000 followers.
The Shah brothers said they decided to use Twitter because it is "contagious" and allows these exclusive deals to be seen by hundreds in a matter of minutes. It also allows friends to instantly share coupons or items.
The business first began on the Butler University campus in 2011 and has expanded to include two different couponing services.
Locations are currently in Muncie and Broad Ripple targeting Ball State and Butler students.
This service remains free for anyone who mentions the coupons. After the subscription system reaches a membership of 2000, there will be a $4.99 monthly fee to get a "steals card" in order to access the deals.
These programs come as a great relief to college students.
Keirstan Brumfeil, a Ball State student, enthusiastically tweeted, "Wait, @MuncieDeals is sending some members to hang out with Chris Brown for a day? I've got to get in on this!"
Muncie Deals will remain free for at least two more weeks.
Members will receive several deals weekly and also have a chance to win a variety of prizes.
