Checks stolen from Obama campaign headquarters

09/20/12 12 p.m.

CHICAGO - Three checks for campaign services have been stolen from President Barack Obama's national campaign headquarters in Chicago.

Midwest Press Secretary Ben Finkenbinder says the checks were to be sent to vendors but "made it into the wrong hands." He says the campaign notified police that he doesn't expect the theft to have any impact on the campaign.

He would not say how much money the checks were for or provide other details about the theft.

Chicago police would not comment Thursday beyond confirming that a theft was reported at that address and that no one was in custody.

WFLD-TV reports that two squad cars were seen outside the building Wednesday, and that officers who responded to the call were seen leaving the building with envelopes.
