Ball State to participate in alumni career fair

Tomorrow hundreds of Indiana collegiate alumni will have the opportunity to attend an alumni only career fair.

The Recruit Indy 2012 Career Fair is being held Thursday at the Indiana Convention Center from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Steve Fulton, alumni center director of new media, said Ball State is one of 15 universities participating in the fair, and currently has the second highest number of registered participants.

The university has contacted between 25,000 and 30,000 university alumni via email, Facebook and LinkedIn.

"We've received a very positive response," Fulton said.

Although Thursday's career fair is aimed specifically at college alumni, Fulton encourages undergraduates to attend as many career opportunities as they can. The experience gained can be invaluable, Fulton said.

"I think there's just a value to get out there and put on a suit and tie or a nice dress and go out and have those conversations that need to be had about becoming gainfully employed once they graduate," Fulton said. "There's a lot of value to just go through the skills and to practice."

Many of the 110 different employers are Indiana based, but offer out of state opportunities for its employees.

FedEx, Simon Property Group, Liberty Mutual Insurance and Staples, Inc. are a few of the companies recruiting.

"I cannot stress how important it is to get out there and practice going to these career fairs, whether you're looking for employment or not," Fulton said. "I think it's a missed opportunity if students don't get out there and practice and hone those skills."
