Ball State dining reassures campus about produce

When major Food and Drug Administration notifications came out over the weekend, Ball State dining officials took didn't waste time when it came to tell faculty and students the possibly harmful products were gone from the university.

The FDA announced recently that they were recalling mushrooms, cantaloupes and romaine lettuce under certain brand names including Meijer, Highline and Tanimura and Antle.

The produce was recalled due to the possible risks of E. coli and listeria.

Dining services informed students, faculty and staff of the incident via email Monday morning.

Elizabeth Poore, assistant director of dining operations, said although the recalled produce didn't affect the Ball State community, her department wanted to make an effort to keep the customers informed.

"We knew there would be a lot of questions, because if you see something like that, in a newspaper, or hear about it on the radio or the web, you tend to think 'Oh gosh, have I eaten any of that?'" Poore said. "We have to react very quickly when these things come up."
