Former students have opportunity to win development contest

Two Ball State graduates are competing for the opportunity to have their self-created smartphone application funded and utilized by Evernote, a development company based out of Redwood City, Calif.

Mark Caravello and Kyle Parker, both Ball State graduates, have created an application called "traveler" using the Evernote platform, and have entered the company's annual developer competition, the Evernote Devcup, with the hopes of snagging one of several prizes.

The application is meant to be an electronic version of a travel journal and gives users the ability to create trips, create notebooks for each trip, add family, friends and companions as travelers on each trip and share notes with other traveler users.

Applications are based off four different criteria including design, effective use of the Evernote platform, utility and originality of concept.

The winning applications will be chosen by a panel of judges and through public voting.

Parker and Caravello have the opportunity to win the top prize, a $10,000 cash prize and airfare and lodging to attend the Evernote Trunk Conference in San Francisco.

Voting for the contest ends on July 23.
