The avocado is quite the super-fruit. Rich in minerals and vitamins A and B, avocados contain more protein than most fruits and do wonders for skin and hair upkeep. This DIY from eHow.com explains how you can achieve a moisturized face and luscious locks with an avocado and a few simple steps.
FOR YOUR FACE
Mash up a quarter of an avocado and spread it on the face, letting it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. The avocado will provide the skin with tons of Vitamin A and will give the skin a softer feel.
FOR EXFOLIATION
Put the pit of one avocado in a food processor. Add water and blend until a scrub is produced. Exfoliation is key to a solid skin care routine. By exfoliating with the avocado pit, you will easily remove dead skin cells, resulting in a brighter appearance.
FOR YOUR HAIR
Mash one quarter of an avocado and combine with equal parts mayonnaise. Distribute evenly in hair and let sit for 15 minutes. This will deep-condition and nourish the hair and scalp.
FOR YOUR NAILS
Use avocado oil as a cuticle treatment and apply directly (see below article on how to make avocado oil). This nourishes jagged and torn cuticles.
FOR YOUR FEET
Finally, use avocado oil to treat dry, cracked feet. First, exfoliate your feet, especially your heels. Then, use a layer of avocado oil to heal cracks.
How to make your own avocado oil -
INGREDIENTS
8 avocados
4 cups of coconut cream (not coconut milk or cream of coconut)
DIRECTIONS
1. Blend flesh of the avocados and coconut cream until smooth. The consistency should be like a wet paste with not lumps or chunks.
2. Pour paste into a large pot on the stove set to medium-low heat. Stir with wooden spoon every five minutes, scraping sides and bottom to prevent burning.
3. Cook until all moisture has evaporated, then remove from stove.
4. Place a large piece of cloth (will be used for straining) over a large bowl. Dump cooked avocado on top.
5. Grab the edges of the cloth and bring them together over the avocado so it looks like a bag with the avocado inside. Squeeze the avocado flesh within the cloth to extract as much oil as possible.
6. Pour extracted avocado oil into a small, airtight glass container.
