Ball State students selected for Fulbright summer program

Three Ball State students have been selected to participate in the prestigious 2012 UK Fulbright Summer Institute. Only 43 U.S. students are chosen to participate in this program.

Summer Fulbright Institutes are intensive three to six week cultural and academic programs that are hosted by different UK institutions. The point of the program is to help students develop their academic abilities as well as offering them a chance to explore the culture and history of the UK.

The three Ball State students selected for this program were Tara Olivero, Victoria Ison and Rachel Yoder.

Olivero, who was selected as part of the Fulbright-American Institute for Foreign Study at Shakespeare's Globe, is a junior in the Honors College majoring in English education. She is a member of the university's concert choir and the executive board for the Quidditch League and writes for the Honors College newsletter. Olivero is looking forward to being immersed in British culture for the first time.

Ison, a sophomore magazine journalism and Spanish double major, was selected to participate in the Fulbright-King's College London Summer Institute. Ison is a reporter for the Daily News as well as the managing editor of the Honors College newsletter. She volunteers throughout the Muncie community and is looking forward to experiencing London during the Olympic Games.

Yoder, a sophomore art student majoring in visual communications, will be attending the program through the Fulbright-Nottingham Trent University Summer Institute. During her time at Ball State, Yoder has been on the dean's list, a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and is a founding member of FRESH st.ART, an artist's alliance for first year art students. Yoder is looking forward to experiencing the differences between American and British cultures.
