14-year-old girl arrested after Indianapolis crash

INDIANAPOLIS - Police have arrested a 14-year-old girl who investigators say was driving a car that slammed into a tree along an Indianapolis street, badly injuring three boys riding with her.

Police said Wednesday the girl faces preliminary charges of criminal recklessness causing serious bodily injury and driving while having never received a license. Witnesses told officers that the car was speeding on a neighborhood street on the city's west side Tuesday when it went out of control and hit the tree head-on.

Police spokesman Anthony Schneider said a 14-year-old boy hurt in the crash was hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday, while two 13-year-old boys are in stable condition. The girl was arrested after being treated at a hospital.
