Police shoot gunman after search of central Indiana park

NOBLESVILLE, Ind.- State police say officers shot a 19-year-old man who pointed a gun toward them after firing a round into the air at a central Indiana park.

State police Sgt. Ray Poole says SWAT team members found the man in the rural Hamilton County park along the White River early Wednesday.

Poole says the man didn't follow orders to drop the gun and swung it aggressively toward officers when they fired. The teen from Lapel was taken to an Indianapolis hospital in critical but stable condition.

A sheriff's deputy first spotted the man with a gun late Tuesday in Lafayette Trace Park a few miles north of Noblesville. He ran away, prompting a three-hour search.

Police say the man had posted suicidal notes online after breaking up with his girlfriend.
