Part of McGalliard Road will temporarily close Monday

Part of one of Muncie's busiest roads will close today for construction.

McGalliard Road between North Granville Avenue and North Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. will be closed.

According to a public notice, the road will close after the initial morning rush hour today. The section of road will stay closed for approximately four weeks.

The closure will take place 24 hours a day, and drivers are encouraged to prepare to use alternate routes.

North Barr Street, East Princeton Avenue and North Broadway Avenue can be used as detours.

The area will be closed in order for the Indiana Department of Transportation, the city of Muncie and Norfolk Southern Corporation to complete various improvements to the area.

Renovations include updates for roadways, traffic signals and railroad crossings.

The installation of a concrete island in the center of McGalliard Road will be done by INDOT and Muncie, and Norfolk Southern Corporation will be responsible for updating and replacing existing signs, gates and flashers on its railroad crossing that is located in the area.
