Friday evening, the John R. Emens Auditorium will be rolling in laughter and delight as the audience takes in the performance of "Young Frankenstein: The Musical."
Sophomore speech-language pathology major Sara Feehan said she looks forward to seeing the musical a second time. She originally saw the musical in Memphis, Tenn., at The Orpheum Theatre.
"The performance was very funny and absolutely lived up to my expectations," she said.
The musical is based off the 1974 Mel Brooks film "Young Frankenstein," a parody of earlier Frankenstein adaptations in the 1930s. Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, grandson of the infamous Dr. Victor Frankenstein, inherits Victor's estate and becomes curious about the kind of work his grandfather did in the laboratory. Frederick is accompanied by his helper Igor, lab assistant Inga and his self-involved fianc+â-¬e Elizabeth.
"My favorite part is when Dr. Frankenstein, Igor and Inga first meet [the housekeeper] Frau Bl+â-+cher," Feehan said. "They do the introductions and every time the name Bl+â-+cher is said, the horse freaks out. It's just a part that really makes me laugh because it is so well done."
Feehan said the musical stuck to the movie and made her happy and she recommended it to fans of the original movie because she said she thinks everyone will enjoy it.
"It's such a funny story and will get anyone laughing," Feehan said.
Through her second viewing, she said she's seeking a different experience that still proves thrilling.
"This time I want to be able to appreciate the details that one usually misses when they see a performance, such as the set, the music and the individual actors," Feehan said.
Some well known tunes that will be performed include "The Transylvania Mania," "He Vas My Boyfriend," and "Puttin' On The Ritz."
"I'm really excited to see 'Puttin' On The Ritz' again because you get such a good laugh from it," Feehan said. "It's impossible to be in a bad mood when you see this musical."
