SOFTBALL: Northern Illinois pours in runs to outlast Ball State

Workman gives up eight earned runs off eight hits

A poor start by senior Audrey Workman led to the Ball State softball team losing their opening Mid-American Conference game 12-5 against Northern Illinois on Saturday.

The Huskies used early offense and late insurance runs to give the Cardinals their worst loss of the season after their double-header was canceled due to field conditions on Friday.

Workman lasted six innings but surrendered 11 runs (eight earned) and eight hits while also allowing five walks. It was the worst start of the season for the Cardinal ace.

Senior Amanda Montalto continued her offensive dominance this year, adding her sixth homerun and a walk to a conference leading OPS.

The Cardinals continue MAC play against the Huskies Sunday at 2 p.m.
