Kinetic Typography offers new, artistic way of storytelling

Youtube.com is home to several videos featuring several talents. Across the site, vlogs, comedies, how-tos, music videos and designers can be seen. Even that list doesn’t fully detail all of the material on the site. Among these trends exists kinetic typography, a more recent online phenomenon. Kinetic typography, defined simply, is moving text. In the broader sense, however, it can be described as taking the words of audio (like a song or a speech) and making them move across the screen. At its very core, that’s what kinetic typography is. However, there is a bit more to it.
Kinetic typography is a form of motion graphics - graphics that use animation programs to create motion - that has been slowly gaining popularity online. Several motion graphic artists have taken songs, put them in some sort of motion graphics software (Adobe After Effects, Apple Motion, etc.) and created a music video.
This phenomenon can be found everywhere, even on Ball State’s campus. Parker Eikenberry,  a sophomore telecommunications major, has made six videos in the past two years and put them online. He’s done songs ranging from the Spanish rap from Community to classics like Don McLean’s “American Pie.” Even now he’s working on typography for the “Epic Rap Battles of History.” In the video Eikenberry discusses his views on kinetic typography and how he works with it.
