Senior pitcher Audrey Workman's (10-6) dominating win over UNLV on Friday didn't carry over in her Saturday start against UNLV as the Ball State softball team (18-8) lost 3-0.
Workman lasted only three innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs before she was replaced by senior Kim Mazzapica. Mazzapica was able to contain the Rebels in her four innings, allowing no runs on three hits and striking out three.
The loss was just the second time the Cardinals have been shut out this season.
Ball State rebounded against Cal-Poly in a 9-4 win as a quick scoring offense gave Workman a healthy 8-1 lead to work with after three innings.
Sophomore Jennifer Gilbert and senior Amanda Montalto led the way offensively for the Cardinals. Gilbert hit her fourth home run of the season and Montalto finished the game 2-for-2 with a double, a hit by pitch and a walk.
Ball State caps its weekend against Lipscomb on Sunday, who they beat earlier in the year 2-0. The game begins at 9 a.m. (PST).
