MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State drops match to UNLV, losing second in a row

Smith and Elliott score the only wins of the match for BSU

After losing to Michigan State last Saturday and breaking an 11-match winning streak, Ball State couldn't shake its demons on Thursday against UNLV.

Playing in Las Vegas, UNLV defeated Ball State 5-2 to give the Cardinals only their third loss of the season.

Senior Zane Smith and freshman Patrick Elliott were the only two Ball State players to earn points on the day. Smith won the No. 3 singles spot with a two- set victory (6-0, 6-1) over Brian Kenyon. Elliott had a tougher match but managed to grab a 7-5, 6-3 win in the No. 6 spot over Bernard Schoeman

UNLV swept the doubles point with a victory in all three matches. Smith and Derek Carpenter came close to securing the second match, but ultimately lost 9-8.

Ball State will return to action today against Northern Arizona at 10 a.m. (PST).
