Alliance to take office at inauguration ceremony

Alliance will enter the Student Government Association office officially today with aspirations to leave long lasting changes on Ball State's campus and making SGA's name more well known.

Alliance's year as the executive board will begin at an inauguration where the out-going slate Catalyst will say goodbye to senators at 3:15 p.m. in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Cardinal Hall B. Alliance is composed of president-elect Chris Wilkey, vice president-elect Heather Closson, secretary-elect Brittany Weaver and treasurer-elect J.P. Bechtel.

Wilkey said the first two platform points they plan to take action on are the social media hub for student organizations information and to "meet the people" by building connections between organizations and SGA.

"Going around and campaigning, we learned a lot," he said. "So we want to learn a little more and let them do the talking instead of us doing the presenting."

The platform points that Wilkey said he expects to leave the biggest change after their term are renovating the Multicultural Center and beautifying the Village.

"What we really want to do is help the Multicultural Center look brand new so that more people use it," Wilkey said. "They will know what in the world it's for, and that way, it can be utilized better on campus."

Since being elected on Feb. 28, Alliance has met with the current executive board about the budget, and the group is also choosing cabinet members for the next year.

Bechtel said he didn't have exact plans for the budget during campaigning, but he now wants to expand the multicultural and cosponsorship funds.

Bechtel said he wants to split the funds between the two semesters so that money will be available to organizations year round.

"There's always events people want cosponsorship [funds] for but then we [could be] out, and I don't want that to happen," he said.
