SOFTBALL: Pitching duo of Workman and Mazzapica lead Ball State to two wins

Gilbert hits third home run of the year

Dominant complete game efforts by senior pitchers Audrey Workman against Cleveland State and Kim Mazzapica against Dayton allowed the Ball State softball team to win their Saturday games in the Frost Classic Inspired by Memorial in Chattanooga, Tenn 3-0 and 6-3, respectively.

Sophomore left fielder Jennifer Gilbert blasted her third home run of the season in the first game to back Workman's shutout performance in allowing only five hits and six strikeouts.

Mazzapica followed it up by allowing five hits and three runs, only one of them earned. She carried a shutout into the fifth inning after the Cardinals capitalized with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Sophomore third basemen Audrey Bickel finished 3 for 4 on Saturday while drawing two walks and scoring two runs.

Ball State ends the weekend against Tennessee Tech University Sunday at 1:15 p.m.
