SOFTBALL: Gilbert hits grand slam to lead Cardinals

Ball State defeats Belmont after losing to Troy earlier in the day

Sophomore Jennifer Gilbert led the Ball State softball team's offense Friday with a two home run game including a grand slam to beat Belmont University 14-3 in the Frost Classic Inspired by Memorial Tournament after dropping game one to Troy University 9-4.

The Cardinals lost to Troy despite out hitting them 11 to 4. Seniors Audrey Workman and Kim Mazzapica gave up 11 walks and Ball State committed 3 errors in the game.

Sophomore Taylor Rager and sophomore Audrey Bickel provided the offense for the Cardinals each finishing with a double and 2 RBIs.

In game two, Gilbert finished the game 4 for 4 with two doubles to go with her two home runs and 6 RBIs to break out of some early season struggles. Bickel added a 2 for 3 day with a home run and 4 RBIs.

The Cardinals head into day two of the tournament with a overall record of 3-3. They will play Cleveland State at 11 a.m. and then Dayton at 3:30 p.m.
