SGA voting begins Monday

Student Government Association executive slates Velocity and Alliance will soon find out who students want to lead SGA for the next year.

Students have the opportunity to determine who they want to fill these campus leadership positions for the next year by voting online today and Tuesday. Starting at 7:45 a.m., students can find a link at www.bsu.edu/sga, from which they can select the slate they believe will better lead the student body.

On Wednesday, Kayla Stanton, outgoing president, encouraged senators to keep their voting choices pure.

"Do not side with your friends if you think the other slate will bring a better future to the Student Government Association," Stanton said. "Do not be intimidated by what you think people may think about you based on how you vote. ... Voting is your responsibility, and it's your responsibility to take it seriously."

Hayes also said he believes informed voting is a student's responsibility.

"These students are going to represent the whole student body," Hayes said. "Just like the national election, it's important that you voice your opinion about who you want to be in the positions of power."

Students can learn about the contending slates at their websites: bsualliance.com and bsuvelocity.com. Voting ends at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, at which point Hayes said SGA's adviser will be the first to look at the results, which are tabulated automatically by the online voting service. Shortly thereafter, Hayes will phone the slates to let them know whether they won.
