WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Moore to miss remainder of season due to academics

Packard gives injury update on Neschelle Williams

Prior to its 50-43 triumph over Mid-American Conference West division foe Northern Illinois on Wednesday night, Ball State was dealt some disappointing news.

Freshman forward Jonessa Moore will sit out the remainder of the season due to academic reasons, according to coach Kelly Packard.

"It's always a loss when you don't have somebody that you were counting on, but I think at this point we put our head down with a plan for her and make her get back to the standards the NCAA requires in order for her to be in a uniform," Packard said.

Moore appeared in nine games for the Cardinals this season. Her best outing came against visiting Oakland City on Nov. 21, in which she totaled 10 points going 5-of-6 from the field and came down with four rebounds. For the season, Moore tallied 26 points and 20 rebounds.

Packard also gave an update on freshman forward Neschelle Williams, who sustained a sprained ankle Sunday afternoon in the Cardinals' 76-64 loss at Western Michigan.

Williams was not dressed and was in a walking boot during Wednesday's game against Northern Illinois, but Packard hopes to have her back for Saturday afternoon's game at Central Michigan.

"She's been getting treatment, so I am hopeful that she'll be with us in uniform on Saturday afternoon," Packard said.

Williams has appeared in eight games for the Cardinals this season. Her best outing came against Eastern Michigan on Jan. 5 in which she came down with 11 rebounds. Williams has recorded 16 points and 23 rebounds for the Cardinals this season.
