MEN'S BASKETBALL: Non-conference schedule ends with lowly Florida A&M

Jarrod Jones coming off his third MAC West Player of the Week award of the season

Ball State wraps up its pre-conference portion of the schedule as it hosts Florida A&M in Worthen Arena.

Less than a week after a 28 point rout of Chicago State on New Year's Eve, scoring a season-high 86 points, the Cardinals now turn their attention to the struggling Rattlers.

Florida A&M (2-12) have lost its last five games, and it won't get any easier as Ball State is a perfect 5-0 at home this season.

Tonight's game is only the second meeting between the two programs. The only other previous meeting came back in 1988 with a 76-52 Cardinal victory.

Ball State (7-4) is led by its 6-foot-9 big man underneath, Jarrod Jones, who leads the Cardinals in scoring and second in the Mid-American Conference averaging 18.1 points per game.

Jones is coming off his third MAC West Division Player of the Week honor of the season. He's the only MAC player to receive the award multiple times.

Jones also is second in the conference in rebounding with 8.2 boards. He's scored double-digits in nine of the first 11 games and 20 or more points in six games so far this season.

Point guard Randy Davis has continued his strong senior campaign leading Ball State and the MAC with a little over seven assists per game. Davis also ranks fifth in NCAA Division I in assists per game.

The Rattlers are led in scoring by Amin Stevens with 16.5 points after playing only the last two games for Florida A&M.

Reggie Lewis follows close behind with almost 12 points per game and second on the team with 18 threes.

This is Ball State's final tune-up game before kicking off the conference season this Saturday at home.
