Democratic activist inherits Tyler's open House seat

A longtime Democratic Party activist has been selected fill the Indiana House seat being given up by Muncie Mayor-elect Dennis Tyler.

Democratic precinct committee members voted Thursday to elect Mike White for the House District 34 seat over tavern owner Lewis Coulter. http://tspne.ws/vxxfmaThe Star Press reports that a vote total wasn't released.

White has a computer business and has been active in Democratic campaigns in Muncie since the 1970s. White says he'll work against the push by the Legislature's Republican majority to approve a "right-to-work" proposal, calling it a scam.

Former Democratic state Sen. Sue Errington plans to seek the seat next year. She doesn't live in the current district, but does live in its revised boundaries for the 2012 election.

Tyler takes office as Muncie's mayor on Sunday.
