Student suffers seizure on shuttle bus

A student suffered a seizure on a campus shuttle bus around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Two University Police Department squad cars and a Delaware County Emergency Medical Services vehicle responded, stopping traffic northbound on McKinley Avenue for about half an hour.

Benecia Brown, a junior telecommunications news and journalism major, was on the bus, and she held the man's head before he fainted. A nursing student also stepped in, offering instructions to fellow students.

Brown, a reporter for the Daily News, remembers hearing instructions: "Lean him over, lean him over. Hold his head down tight."

The man was identified by information from his wallet and cellphone, and police were called immediately.

Brown remembers blood coming from his mouth. Then she said he fell from his seat onto the ground.

"He fell, and he fainted," she said. "The seizure just shook him."

When he woke up, he seemed to be in shock, and he was breathing heavily. Police officers escorted the man to an emergency services vehicle.
