Sigma Chi members report vandalism

Police found four cars vandalized at the Sigma Chi house early Tuesday morning and recovered a broken golf club that may have been used.

An initial report that the cars were set on fire turned out to be false, said Bob Fey, associate chief of the University Police Department.

UPD went to the Sigma Chi house to see the damage at about 3 a.m. on Tuesday. A broken golf club was found at the scene. About $2,100 worth of damage was done to car windows.

Fey said UPD can't be sure that the vandalism was meant to target Sigma Chi members.

"Unless someone is caught, it can be difficult to say, ‘Was this a random act? Or was this object, this house, this car picked out for vandalism for a specific reason?'" he said.

"Often when it is down the street and you see three or four cars vandalized, one might deduce that someone was walking down the street and just started vandalizing one after another, perhaps as a result of intoxication or some other reason."

Fey said UPD will meet with Sigma Chi members again to see if they know of a possible suspect for the vandalism.
