EUROPEAN EXPERIENCES: I miss my meal plan

After living with my parents for 18 years, I moved away to college. Without mom's home cooked meals or fast food she brought home after work, I was on my own in the food department. Luckily, Ball State University had a meal plan waiting for me. All I had to do was pick a plan that worked for me and go at it. I had the 14 meal plan for two years, having two meals a day in the dining facilities. With many different places to eat on campus and multiple options at each, I was always fully satisfied with my meals and never bored.

In the United Kingdom, I have no meal plan. That's right. At 20 years old, I don't have a meal plan and have to cook for myself.

Moving in with seven British flatmates, I was a little intimidated in the beginning in the kitchen. These people cook good food! As I would be waiting for my frozen meal to thaw in the microwave, they would be cutting up their vegetables and cooking chicken breast.

Rather than being able to go to a dining hall and just pick my food out, I came here and had to go to the grocery store and buy my own food.
