Ball State women groups host masquerade ball

Masks, pink balloons and formal wear filled Irving Gym on Saturday night.

Today's Black Women and the Beta Phi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha hosted a masquerade ball to donate food to a local ministry.

The event was free of charge but canned goods were encouraged for donations. More than one gallon of canned goods was collected by the end of the night, Essence Vinson, junior social work major, said.

Sabre Price, senior political science major and president of Today's Black Women, said the donations go to Blood and Fire Ministries.

"Every Saturday the church serves lunch and dinner to the homeless," Price said.

More than 100 people showed up to dance and have a good time.

Vinson, the parliamentarian for Alpha Kappa Alpha, said that she thought there was a good turnout.

"We had a lot of people that came out, especially a lot of freshman," she said.

Vinson said that it feels great to team up with another female centered organization.

"We like to collaborate on an event that we know will be successful," she said.

Rachel Hoke, senior fashion merchandising major, said that she really enjoyed herself.

"The people that are here make it a good time," she said.

Food trays, cake and punch were available as refreshments.

"This is definitely one of Today's Black Women's most anticipated and well attended events and will continue for years to come," Vinson said.
