Outdoor Pursuits has begun the year with numerous events programmed for the Fall Semester at Ball State.
Last year was Outdoor Pursuits' first year on campus. A few of the activities they began with included the climbing wall and its rental and resource center.
The rental center has equipment for backpacking, biking, canoeing, fly fishing and more.
The program will hold an event called the Prairie Creek Water Demo Day on Sept. 10 where students can come and see what they have to offer at their rental center.
Jessica Edenfield, first year graduate assistant with Outdoor Pursuits said there were some changes that were added this year.
"We're definitely trying to get our students more involved with our clinic," Edenfield said. "[Outdoor Pursuits] is trying to teach students some of the basic information or knowledge that they may not know about."
Maya Zaragoza, architecture major and Outdoor Pursuits employee, said she enjoys working there because of all the opportunities it has and its treatment toward students.
"Climbing is always fun because most of the people that work there are really funny and they'll make you feel at ease and [have an enjoyable time]," she said. "It won't be [uncomfortable] or awkward."
An email was sent out to Ball State students with details on what Outdoor Pursuits has planned for the Fall Semester. Some events include trips around Indiana and Ohio and informational clinics.
"People that are normally intimidated by the unknown [can be eased] into the process," Zaragoza said. "Students who have little or no knowledge on information such as camping or bike maintenance can attend a clinic and learn more."
Students this year can go horseback riding, white-water rafting on the Ocoee River in Tennessee, and set up camp at King's Island, Edenfield said. In addition, Outdoor Pursuits is working on a bike shop, with road and mountain bikes for rental, she said.
The programs are offered to students, faculty, staff and anyone in the community.
Students can come into the Outdoor Pursuits office Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to schedule use of rental equipment or to sign up for any of the activities that Outdoor Pursuits holds.
More information about hours, events and pricing can be found on the Ball State website under recreation.
