FOOTBALL: Ball State strikes first, takes lead into second quarter

Edwards scores fourth touchdown of season

For the first time this season, Ball State scored first and holds the lead entering the second quarter. Running back Jahwan Edwards ran for a three-yard touchdown five minutes into the game, giving the Cardinals a 7-0 lead after the first quarter.

The touchdown is Edwards' fourth in three weeks, extending his team lead in scoring. The touchdown capped an 80-yard drive by the Cardinals, coming after the Black Knights won the coin toss and deferred until the second half.

Ball State's defense kept Army in check in the first quarter, despite missing two starters. Cornerback Jason Pinkston and linebacker Tony Martin are missing their first games of the season. Pinkston has a hamstring injury; Martin's has not been disclosed.
