CROSS COUNTRY: Cardinals earn sixth out of 21 teams

MaryKate Mellen finishes as Ball State's top runner for second straight weekend

The Ball State cross country team had another strong weekend at the Indiana Intercollegiate 5K. The team placed sixth out of 21 teams.

MaryKate Mellen was Ball State's top runner for the second weekend in a row, placing 28th with a time of 18:59.

A second behind her was teammate Courtney Edon placed 29th.

Running away with the 36th spot was Madeline Goheen with a time of 19:10.

The Cardinals scored 193 points to make it to the sixth place ranking.

Christine Talhelm placed 54th with a time of 19:39. With a time of 19:48, Esther Tirado placed 60th.

Coming in with 75th, 78th, 81st, and 96th rankings were Caitlynn Edon, Emilee Zets, Allison Blanck and Maddie Webster, respectively.

The team will rest next weekend in order to prepare for their Oct. 1 race at the Greater Louisville Classic.

Coaches were not available for comment.
