Ball State student wins lunch with CEO Warren Buffett

A Ball State public relations and telecommunications major won a lunch with Warren Buffett, chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway.

Senior Jenna James entered her video about the future of public relations into Business Wire's 50th Anniversary College Video Contest, and found out last week she was named the winner.

"It still hasn't hit me that I've won the contest yet," James said.

The contest was launched in April and called on full-time college students to create a video less than three minutes long that answered the question "What is the future of public relations and communications?"

James' used a time-lapsed story board using Sharpies and cardboard paper to narrate the ever-changing communications industry in her video, and touches on things such as hand-held media, the future of technology and other forms of emerging media. She said she completed the video in eight hours over a span of two days.

James said she is looking forward to meet Buffett because even though "he's one of the richest men in the world, he still does a lot for charities."

Winning the contest has already gotten James some exposure to potential employers.

"I'm trying to network with a lot of people," she said. "I've already had so many people call for interviews."

James said her ultimate goal would be to work for the United States Olympic Committee.

James will fly to New York City to have lunch with Buffett at the Business Wire opening bell New York Stock Exchange luncheon on Sept. 30.
