I love move-in week. I love seeing new freshmen as they pile their belongings beneath a shade tree, and seeing upperclassmen reunite with friends.
It's nice to see all the hustle and bustle around campus again — and from fellow students, not construction workers.
A lot has changed this summer, from the Scramble Light to athletic facilities, and part of our goal with this edition is to help you catch up.
You'll notice from our front-page story that social networking and new tech exploded over the summer, leaving some of us to wonder how we can make sense of it all. How do you use this stuff, why bother and how does it affect one's daily lifestyle? Just read Benjamin's column and check out his story to get the full breakdown.
You noticed the Scramble Light doesn't chirp anymore (apparently there's a rule against things like that), and that the intersection seems more open without the lights hanging above the street. There's a story on that too — and the reasoning behind the tuition increase, not to mention the new softball facilities that help Ball State comply with gender equity standards.
Besides what you missed, we'd like to focus this year on telling your stories. That's our job, after all: to advocate for the students and tell stories of daily life at Ball State.
We came up with a couple ideas this summer to help make it happen.
The "Hot 30" is one example. It's a weekly video segment where we throw out a topic and you give us your answers in a 30-second video clip. You can send me your thoughts in YouTube video link to editor@bsudailynews.com, or just wait and see if you're one of the lucky people our videographers stumble across while on assignment.
Also look for more quad talks on our Forum page, more online updates and more videos about what's going on around campus.
We want to interact with you, our audience. Feel free to send us your ideas. Submit a letter to the editor, drop me an email, tweet at us, even stop by the newsroom.
Make this your newspaper or be stubborn and miss out on an essential piece of Ball State pride. You never know what you may experience and what you may leave for others to experience after you.
