I-69 work in SW Ind. on pace for traffic in 2012

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — State officials say good construction weather has them still expecting portions of the Interstate 69 extension in southwestern Indiana will be ready for traffic by the end of next year.

Construction work is under way on much of the highway's route from near Evansville to just outside the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center southwest of Bloomington.

Elliott Sturgeon of the Indiana Department of Transportation tells the Evansville Courier & Press (http://bit.ly/pplJmA ) that dry weather the past two months has allowed construction crews to catch up from delays caused by a wet spring.

Traffic is expected to begin using the new highway by December 2012. Construction will next start on the section from Crane to Bloomington, with that expected to open in 2014.
