FIELD HOCKEY: Ball State picked to finish fifth in conference

Defending champion Kent State picked to win regular season

Ball State women's field hockey was picked to finish fifth out of six teams in the regular season in the 2011 Mid-American Conference Preseason Coach's Poll.

In her second season as field hockey coach, Beth Maddox brought in 10 incoming freshman for the 2011 season. The Cardinals also field a total of nine seniors and juniors for the season, making the majority of the team with no collegiate experience.

The Cardinals will also return senior forward Devanny Kuhn, who led the team in 2010 with 15 goals, 33 points and 81 shots.

Defending MAC champions Kent State was picked to win the regular season and tied with Miami and Ohio to win the conference tournament.

The Golden Flashes received 33 votes, including two first place votes, while the Cardinals received 12 votes and no first place votes.

Even with two-time defending MAC Player of the Year Rachel Miller gone from Kent State, the school was still picked to win the conference.

Predicted Order of Finish

1. Kent State (32 votes)

2. Miami (28)

3. Ohio (27)

4. Central Michigan (18)

5. Ball State (12)

6. Missouri State (9)
