Superfan visits Wizarding World

Students collect Harry Potter memorabilia

Claire Riley got to do what many Harry Potter superfans dream of - go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Orlando.

The Make a Wish Foundation funded the trip for the sophomore who is currently in remission from Hodgkin's lymphoma.

With it's recreation of Hogsmeade and a smaller version of the Hogwarts castle housing the Forbidden Journey ride, she said the Wizarding World was very realistic and true to the book.

Riley was first introduced to the series when her grandmother started to send her the books in elementary school.

Since then, Riley has seen every movie, read every book, and owns a multitude of Harry Potter memorabilia.

From t-shirts to wands, Riley has quite the variety from her beloved series. She also has other items such as board games, a snow globe, scarves, and even an authentic candy chocolate frog.

"The series is definitely unique," says Riley, "and I wish there were more books like it."

Sophomore Celia Villacres would also describe herself as a superfan, especially since she just bought a $30 wand.

Her love of Harry Potter started in the second grade as a result of her older brother's love for the series.

"I always liked what my brother liked back then, but this time it was sincere," said Villacres.

After reading each book and seeing each movie, she kept coming back for more as the series continued. Villacres said that for her, the series carried a unique concept, one that many other books lack.

"The whole idea of the series, the story behind it, was incredible to me," said Villacres, "I'd never read anything like it."

She said that since she grew up with the anticipation and hype of Harry Potter, it will be weird seeing other children grow up without it.

As the premier of the last movie approaches, Villacres plans on catching the movie at her hometown theater in McHenry, Illinois, in full costume, of course.

Riley also has big plans for opening night. She will attend the midnight showing in IMAX in Indianapolis with a group of friends.

She also plans on dressing up for the event. For the first part of the final film, Riley took advantage of the tickets that were sold on campus with provided transportation to and from the theater.

Riley says that she's sad it's the last movie, and she wishes that the series wasn't over. Villacres has another point of view.

"It's pretty bittersweet," says Villacres, "but I am definitely ready for it to be done. It's been a good ride."
