Missing IU student's parents thank volunteers

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The parents of an Indiana University student who vanished more than a month ago are thanking the volunteers who have helped search for their missing 20-year-old daughter.

Lauren Spierer's parents held Saturday's "Laps for Lauren" event on the IU campus to thank volunteers who took part in searches for the Greenburg, N.Y., resident, who vanished June 3 after a night out with friends. The volunteer searches were suspended June 29.

Spierer's parents gathered with some of those volunteers at IU's Woodlawn Track, where their daughter came as a student to escape and exercise. Robert and Charlene Spierer then led the crowd around the track on a warm afternoon.

WTHR-TV in Indianapolis reports that Robert Spierer told the gathering he and his family "feel a very integral part of this community."
