Frog Baby removed from fountain to be inspected

Students walking north of Bracken Library may have noticed an orange cone replaced their good luck charm Monday morning.

The Frog Baby statue and water was removed from the pond after Facilities Planning and Management realized the fountain wasn't working properly.

"It could be a pipe that leads up into the statue or comes out of the actual base of the pond itself," Jim Lowe, director of Facilities Planning and Management, said. "So we're in the discovery mode and as soon as we find it, we'll fix it and fill it back up."

The department noticed the fountain wasn't working about a week ago. The statue was removed so plumbers could check the piping on Monday.

Workers likely checked pipes to see if they were clogged and keeping water from reaching the statue.

Lowe said plumbers are researching the piping that probably goes back to the actual pump itself, but beyond that he was waiting to hear back from them. He said he hopes the fountain will be fixed by Wednesday.

In the meantime, Lowe said Frog Baby is under lock and key so she doesn't disappear.

"It's amazing how quick things like that would walk away," he said. "So just to make sure it doesn't, we've got it under protection."
