Exhibition features interactive robots

Minnetrista Family Fun Day draws theme from 2005 movie

Transformers, R2D2 and various other robots have taken over Minnetrista in its newest addition, Robots: The Interactive Exhibition.

Based on the 2005 20th century Fox film "Robots," the exhibit covers 5,000 square feet and includes robots from that movie as well as other films and historical events.

Since the exhibit's May 21 opening, there has been plenty of positive feedback, Steven Beverly of Minnetrista said.

"So far, the response has been good," he said, although the number of people who has gone through the exhibit is uncertain.

The exhibit is geared towards all ages, giving the entire family a chance to learn about robots.

Minnetrista's Family Fun Day on August 24 will center around the Robots theme. From noon to 4 p.m., patrons can discover what humans and robots do best through activities such as putting together a sandwich cookie as a robot would. They can also build Ollo Action Robots and view a variety of robot demonstrations.

"It's really a great opportunity for kids to play games, see some of the robots, and have a lot of family fun," Beverly said.

The museum and cultural center hosts Family Fun Days every other month, each one revolving around one of their themed exhibits.

Robots: The Interactive Exhibition will stay open until Sept. 11.

Admission to the exhibit as well as the Family Fun Day event is $5, but free for members of Minnetrista.
