Severe thunderstorm results in 650 power outages

The severe thunderstorm that struck Muncie and much of Central Indiana this evening 650 homes near Tillotson and Jackson avenues without power.

Electricity will be restored around 10 p.m., according to YaVonda Ulfig, a spokeswoman with Indiana Michigan Power.

Muncie Police Department dispatcher Andrea Serf said she's received 10 to 15 calls regarding down trees and power lines in the northern part of the county, but no injuries or traffic incidents have been reported.

The storm struck around 7:30 p.m.

Earlier:

Muncie and Delaware County are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 7 p.m.

The storm could produce quarter-size hail and 70 mph winds, according to the National Weather Service.

Lightning and high winds are expected. The weather service suggests moving to an interior room on the lowest floor.

The weather service forecasts thunderstorms throughout the week.
