North Indiana traffic stop leads to $1M in cocaine

ELKHART — State police say a traffic stop along the Indiana Toll Road led troopers to nearly $1 million in cocaine in a Mercedes being hauled by a semitrailer.

The Times of Munster reports that troopers arrested 46-year-old Patrick B. Austin of Alta Loma, Calif., on Thursday after pulling over the semitrailer he was hauling near the Elkhart exit. Austin was being held Saturday on a charge of dealing cocaine, with his bond set at $5 million.

The trailer he was pulling contained a 2007 Mercedes Benz S550 valued at $100,000 and a 2008 Rolls Royce Phantom valued at $300,000.

A search warrant allowed officers to search the Mercedes, leading to the discovery of 29 kilos of cocaine in its trunk worth nearly $1 million.
