TRACK AND FIELD: Cardinals ready to run at Miami Invitational

Ball State has 11 athletes ranked in to top-20 of the MAC

The Ball State Track and Field team will compete Friday and Saturday at Miami of Ohio University in its first scored meet of the outdoor season.

The Miami Invitational starts at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and continues on Saturday at 11 a.m. 

Competing in the 100-meter dash is Janae Taylor and Rebecca Lomax. Taylor is currently ranked 18th in the MAC.

Four runners will represent Ball State in the 200-meter dash: Ra'Jae Marable, Hannah Lange, Judah Smith and Janae Taylor. Smith is currently ranked 9th in the Mid-American Conference, while Taylor is ranked 13th.

Currently ranked 16th in the conference Judah Smith will be running the 400-meter dash with teammate Hannah Lange.

Tiffany Cange, Emilee Zets and Christine Talhelm will all run in the 800-meter. Talhelm is currently ranked 16th in the conference.

MaryKate Mellen, running the 18th fastest time in the MAC in the 1,500-meter run, will compete with Zets and Esther Tirado in the event. 

Madeline Goheen, Kelsey Nielsen and Allison Blanck will all be running in the 5,000-meter run.

Ra'Jae Marable is running the 100-meter hurdles race. 

Relay teams will be mixed up more than normal this weekend. Ball State is racing three different teams, two in the 4x400 and one in the 4x100.

The first 4x400 team consists of Madeline Goheen, Kelsey Nielsen and Allison Blanck. Mellen, Cange, Zets and Tirado make up the second. 

The 4x100 team is Rebecca Lomax, Smith, Marable and Taylor.

In field events, Ball State has 11 different athletes in top 20 MAC rankings. 

In high jump,  Lomax is tied for second in the MAC, while Kelsey Jackson is ranked 17th and Samanth Rife is ranked 18th. All three will be jumping this weekend.

Tara Spitzer-Long will be pole vaulting and is currently ranked 20th in MAC standings. 

Alyssa Hurlburt is long jumping and triple jumping this weekend. She is ranked 19th and eighth, respectively, in the MAC.

Competing in the hammer throw on Friday night will be Elizabeth Flinner, Jorden Traver, Jordan Puckett, Emily Peregrine and Lywanna Melvin.

Traver is the lone Javelin thrower for the Cardinals.

Kate Krull, Lywanna Melvin and Melissa Dodaro will throw shot put.

Melissa Dodaro, ranked 13th in the MAC, will throw discus with Traver and Melvin.
