SGA faces possible bylaw infractions

Student Government Association President Kayla Pickersgill could be charged for violating due process of appointing a student senate position and neglecting to appoint a committee to review the budget, which must be approved tomorrow.

According to Ball State College Republicans, she broke the bylaws by directing the credentials board not to review the group's application for an organizational seat in the SGA student senate.

Pickersgill is also being charged with removing credentials board chairman Kevin Thurman from his position, without giving student senate the opportunity to review the case.

Pickersgill could also face repremands if the SGA budget is not approved by tomorrow. The executive slate had yet to appoint a committee to review the budget.

College Republicans say they submitted an application for an organizational seat in the SGA student senate on April 11, and by April 25, it hadn't been acted on. This violates a section of the bylaws, which states that applications need to be processed within two weeks.

Article V.3.B.2 of the SGA bylaws states: "All applications for nomination shall be processed at the timely discretion of the Chair within at least two weeks after submission for approval."

The judicial court could review these cases to determine if the application should be reviewed and if Thurman should be reinstated to his position.
